Russia dislikes new HBO series 'Chernobyl', announcing a remake.

Russia dislikes new HBO series 'Chernobyl', announcing a remake of the catastrophic nuclear disaster.

HBO’s recent miniseries 'Chernobyl' jumping to the top of IMDb’s all-time rankings of television shows has become a hit for the US TV network.

This is while, the series has not gone over well in Russia with a Russian company being in postproduction on a series about Chernobyl, a media report said.

Meanwhile, Russian journalists reacted to the miniseries, noting the network is depicting a distortion of reality that implicates Russia in the disaster. They mainly said that the series does not correspond to the truth.

The Russian series in the making is under director Alexei Muradov and has reportedly been funded by Russia’s NTV channel   It follows the story of a CIA operative at Chernobyl conducting sabotage.

The director defended the Russian narrative of the disaster citing historians who cannot discredit the claim.

Muradov was quoted by the media as saying, “One theory holds that Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that, on the day of the explosion, an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station.”

In 1986, a nuclear reactor exploded at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant under the Soviet Union that created a deadly disaster in history of the world.
